Truck bodies and trailers, waste collection and recycling equipment, fuel tankers and various kinds of giant tipping trucks are all made by Howard Porter and are in use throughout the Pacific region.
Howard Porter (PNG) Pty Ltd was established in 1992 as a joint venture between Howard Porter Australia and Hornibrook NGI, thus combining the expertise of a master motor body builder with PNG’s major steel fabrication contractor.
“The in-country manufacture of standard ranges of transport equipment saves on import duty as well as providing employment and training opportunities for PNG citizens,” says Managing Director Dave Howard. “It also allows for the customizing of equipment to suit a client’s particular need.”
Based in Lae, Howard Porter (PNG) Pty Ltd makes and repairs a comprehensive range of transport equipment for PNG’s expanding road system and industrial sector, equipment such as standard semi tri-axle trailers and tray bodies, dropside bodies and trays for tipping trucks. Equipment adapted for particular local applications includes trays for coffee trucks and frames for PMV’s. Howard Porter supplies a long list of agricultural equipment together with grain and livestock trailers, fire tenders, water tankers, and waste collecting equipment.
As logging and mining have developed as major sectors of the PNG economy, Howard Porter has been able to tender for the specialized equipment they inevitably require, for example: timber jinkers (the trailers for logging vehicles) , drop-deck semi-trailers, loaders, dumpers and service vehicles for the mining industry.
Liquids such as palm oil and petroleum have to be transported in tankers. Howard Porter makes tankers in both steel and aluminium.
A retail spare parts outlet was established in 1994 with a wide range of stock from manufacturers around the world.
“ Although we are based in Lae, we work closely with Hornibrook in Port Moresby,” says Dave Howard. “Between us we can deal quickly with customers’ demands from anywhere in PNG.”
Howard Porter has a corporate mission to expand even further than PNG, to provide internationally competitive, quality products to the surrounding regions.
